Volunteers needed!

Friday, October 30th, 11:15am to 1pm
Playground committee –  Request for volunteers for Playground fundraiser prize winner’s pizza and ice cream party (Division 8 and Division 9). We need a minimum of 2 more parent helpers to come on Friday October 30th, 11:15am for set up of the pizza and ice cream party the classes won for raising the most funds in our playground fundraiser.

Division 8 is Ms Raptis/Karvelis and we will be serving pizza, and ice cream sundae bar. Division 9 is Ms Armstrong and we will be serving ice cream sundae bar.

We need parents to set up the sundae bar, by bringing items up from PAC kitchen, serve and help clean up afterwards. Pizza served at 11:45, ice creams shortly thereafter. The Halloween parade starts just after 1pm, so you will easily be done by then and able to stay watch if you like.  Please email Ariel at

Nov 4-5; At your convenience, at any time,  for 1-2 hours.
The magazine annual fundraiser committee is requesting 3 volunteers to help with packaging the fundraiser material for distribution to children. No experience necessary. This can be done at the volunteer’s convenience between Nov 2-5. Please contact Arwinder at

Christmas Concert: Thurs, December 3 and Tuesday, December 15th
Bake Sale committee will be requesting bake sale donations for the Christmas concert. More details to follow in November.

Friday, December 18th, 7:45am to Noon
Pancake Breakfast with Santa and Firefighters – requests up to 20 volunteers in serving pancakes cooked by the firefighters to the student body, managing the photos, and spreading Christmas cheer. It’s the last day of school before the holidays. No experience necessary. Training and orientation will be provided. Please email

End of November; 15 minutes flexible (training); one day in January
Lice Committee is seeking 7 additional  volunteers to help with Head Lice screening in January – a one-day event, from 9am-2pm. No experience necessary. Training (15 minutes) to be conducted in late November. There are 400 students in the school and this parent-run program has been effective in helping the school greatly reduce the risk of head lice. There were 6 cases of reported head lice in 2012, 11 cases in 2013 and 3 cases in 2014. This fall there are 2 reported cases. For more information about head lice and our program, please click here. Our Planned Activities for 2015/2016

The list below includes both ongoing, potential and past PAC activities. Without volunteers and/or funding, these activities would not exist at Capitol Hill. We look forward to having most or all of these events in the 2015/2016 school year.

Back to School Open House featuring A Sundae Bar: This is our Welcome Back to School community gathering as a way to kick off our new 2015/2016 school year! A sundae bar will be featured.

Annual Pancake Breakfast: Parents host an annual pancake breakfast in December along with the Burnaby Firefighters Charitable Society.

Bake Sale: Parents host a monthly bake sale for students. Parents may like to contribute a home made or store bought baked good.

Dance Program: Every student will receive Hip Hop instructions this year. Date and duration to be determined.

Emergency Preparedness: Parents maintain, update and keep record of our emergency supplies in the school and kiosk. Ensure drill practice with the school.

Family Portrait Night: Have your family portraits done at the school at an affordable price. Held in September 23 and October 2, 2015.

Health and Safety – Head Lice: Parents bring awareness and education to every student as well as parents through a yearly routine of head lice checks.

Multicultural Event: A community fundraising event held in April/May.

Parents’ Monthly Morning Coffee with Mr. Chow: Parents together with other parents meet with the principal over coffee once a month to discuss current issues, address concerns, or receive updates about our school.

Playground Addition: Last year, 2014/2015, our primary fundraising goal is a major playground addition to our intermediate playground.

Sports Day Concession: Parents set up a concession stand on Sports Day selling Sports Day favourites from light lunches to savoury snacks to sweet treats.

Staff Appreciation Luncheon: Parents host an annual luncheon for Capitol Hill staff as a way to express our appreciation for their efforts, hard work, and dedication.

Traffic Safety:  Parents assist with keeping children safe by monitoring crosswalks, drop-off lot and Holdom Avenue to ensure that drivers safely stop for all pedestrians.

Tennis Lessons: Every student will receive tennis lessons this year. Date and duration to be determined.
